24 more Grand Gedeans May Be Arrested

Inside sources at the Liberia National Police and NSA have hinted me that at least 24 men, all of them Grand Gedeans or members of the Krahn tribe from Kparblee District in Nimba County, may be arrested in the coming days or weeks or months. There was no specific time pinpointed by our sources as to when the arrests will take place.

According our sources who are second and third level personnel of the NSA and the Police disclosed that after nearly five hours of grilling Oforie Diah, the security authorities are claiming that Mr. Diah confessed to them the names of 24 people who were accused of being involved in the Ivorian crisis.

Some of those expected to be arrested include Junior Yormie, Edward Gbor, “Garang” of MODEL, Junior Tarley, John Youboty, Abednego Zweh, and all those who were given clearance recently, among others. Our NSA agent source said, “The reason they charged Oforie Diah was because he refused to call any names, after they offered to release him if he named those connected with the Ivory Coast fighting…”

It can be recalled that the NSA offered to give Mr. Andrew Dorbor some money, “set him up with $10,000 USD” and promised to release him if he implicated Charle Julu (the late) in 2007, but Mr. Dorbor refused and he was charged with Treason.

If the government carries out it plans, there will be well over two dozens of Grand Gedeans locked up behind bars during the Sirleaf Administration in Liberia. The Ellen Sirleaf administration has already broken the record of arresting and detaining the largest number of people from one ethnic group. Currently, there are nine (9) Grand Gedeans locked up awaiting trial for crimes ranging from murder to criminal facilitation.

We are watching developments and will inform you as we get them.

$200 Donation For 9 Grand Gedeans' Legal Defense

My friend and brother and fellow Grand Gedean, Chelly Joloka, called me this morning and said a senior Grand Gedean wanted to surprise me. According to Joloka, the Senior Gedean (who did not want his name to be published) wired $200 to me to thank me for everything I have done and still doing. I was very happy. Upon informing my wife about the good news, my wife asked: "Are you going to eat a free money while nine (9) of your brothers are in jail?" She suggested that I should turn all the money over to the lawyer for the legal defense of the nine (9) Grand Gedeans. I wanted to take her to Red Lobster or Apple Bees, or some of her favorite restaurant to enjoy my $200. But as it turned out, I had to donate the money to the legal defense of our brothers who are languishing behind bars.

Therefore, I went to the MoneyGram and wired the money about an hour ago to the Lawyer. The money was just the right amount we needed since two more persons, Oforie Diah and Bobby Sarpee Julu, were added to the seven (7) that the lawyer was already defending. I want to thank the senior Grand Gedean for recognizing my efforts. I appreciate the gift so much, but sir, please allow me to give it away for the legal defense our brothers. Thank you and may God bless and replenish whatever you have spent.

Oforie Diah Charged With Criminal facilitation

Oforie Diah
In little over six hours ago, it was established that Mr. Oforie Diah was taken to the Magisterial Court at the Temple of Justice and issued a writ of arrest, charging him with "Criminal Facilitation", a third degree felony that is bailable.

The National Police Director, Chris Massaquoi had ordered yesterday that Mr. Diah be transferred to the National Security Agency (NSA), where most of the nine (9) Grand Gedeans were previously detained and allegedly tortured to force confession out of them.

However, following the issuance of our press release demanding the government to charge Mr. Diah and accord him due process, the police rushed him to the Magisterial Court this morning local Liberian time and issued him a writ of arrest. Court and relative sources said Mr. Diah was arraigned and was remanded to jail awaiting the posting of a proper "property valuable bond" to secure his release.

Cllr. Dempster Brown acting on behalf of the Concerned Grand Gedeans in the Americas, who represents the first seven (7) Grand Gedeans, has assured that he will file the appropriate legal precepts on behalf of Mr. Diah. The lawyer is between the Supreme Court where the previous case is awaiting Chamber Justice's review and the lower court where Oforie was arraigned to ensure the defendants are adequately covered.

According to court sources, Oforie Diah will need a property, like a house, a company or insurance company to file a proper bond before he can be bailed out, something the lawyer cannot provide. A conversation with a court officer said the problem would be that the government prosecution may reject any bond just so that Mr. Diah could remain behind bars for a longer time. But our lawyer is making frantic efforts to settle the issue legally.

Mr. Diah was arrested and detained more than 48 hours ago when he ran to the police to report an explosion near his residence. While at the Central Police Station on Capitol Hill, he was instead arrested and detained. Police sources said one of the Grand Gedeans who has been detention at the NSA for more than one week without charges, Bobby Sarpee Julu, confessed that Oforie was part of the Ivory Coast attack that killed seven UN Nigerien soldiers and two Ivorian soldiers recently. Our sources said the explosion was an assassination attempt on Mr. Diah's life.

It can be recalled that the police lied on two of the seven defendants that they confessed the names of Nezee Barway and others. The FrontPageAfrica reported recently that upon arriving at the Temple of Justice, the defendants told the press that the police lied, and that they did not confessed to anything.

We are monitoring the situation and will bring you update.

In 7 Grand Gedeans Case: Government Seeks Help From Supreme Court

Next Monday, October 29, 2012 will see the lawyers of the Government of Liberia and defense counsel of the seven Grand Gedeans charged with murder, rape, etc in a legal tussle at the Supreme Court of Liberia. The government took the lower Magisterial Court on summary proceeding before the Chamber Justice seeking reprieve.

According to information gathered from the Court, the government prosecutors ran to the Supreme Court to stop the Magistrate from freeing the seven men, who are currently detained at the Central Prison at South Beach. The prosecution said they believe the Magisterial Court was leaning towards granting the seven men their liberty.

The Defense Counsel for the seven men, Cllr. Dempster Brown has confirmed the information. "We are going to argue the case at the Supreme Court on Monday," Cllr. Brown said, "the government does not have case against these people."

The seven Grand Gedeans are Nezee Barway, Isaac Taryon, Michael Cole, Prince Youty, James Cooper, Stephen Gloto, and Nimely Tere Antoine. The arrest and detention of Bobby Sarpee Julu and brings the number of Grand Gedeans in detention to nine (9).

Meanwhile, the Concerned Grand Gedeans in the Americas have found a legal representation for Mr. Oforie Diah. He is being represented by Cllr. Brown.

Liberian Government Attempts to Assassinate Oforie Diah

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 24, 2012

PRESS STATEMENT

It well over 48 hours since the Government of Liberia, by and through the National Police, arrested and detained Mr. Oforie Diah, a Liberian and son of Grand Gedeh County. Mr. Diah is yet to be charged by the Government of Liberia for any crime they may have suspected him to have committed. Mr. Diah is a peace-loving man.
Oforie Diah
Latest reports say instead of the Police charging Mr. Diah and submitting him to the legal process in a court of competent jurisdiction, Police Director Chris Massaquoi ordered that Mr. Diah be turned over the National Security Agency (NSA), where he will be tortured and forced to confess to crimes he did not commit. Other Grand Gedeans have been tortured at the NSA before. As of 6:00pm Liberian time, Mr. Diah should in the custody of the NSA, while he is yet to be charged with any crime. This is violation of Mr. Diah’s right as the Liberian Constitution provides that a suspect arrested by the police must be charged within 48 hours and sent to court to face trial in a court of competent jurisdiction.
Even more appalling is latest inside information from the headquarters of the police that the authority of the police had tried two days ago to assassinate Mr. Oforie Diah. According to a very credible inside source in the middle hierarchy of the police, the police planted two plain clothes security officers around Mr. Diah’s residence to monitor him 24 hours. Our source said they were given petrol bombs to kill Mr. Diah in his own residence. The act would have been blamed on armed robbers. Mr. Diah narrowly escaped the assassination plot.
Luckily for Mr. Diah, the petrol bombs went off with no harm to his person. Following the explosion, Mr. Diah ran to the police to report the incident but he was rather arrested and detained instead of the police going to his rescue. Our source said the police authority lied about Bobby Sarpee Julu, the ninth Grand Gedean in the police custody for weeks now without charges, that he confessed Mr. Oforie Diah’s name as one of the people who have part to play in the Ivorian crisis.
We very strong believe that the government is still bent on witch-hunting Grand Gedeans. The government lied about Mr. Diah and others recently and declared them most wanted for allegedly launching an attack in la Cote d’Ivoire, when in fact Mr. Diah and seven (7) others were nowhere around the area do the incident. The security authority declared them free but issued them pass to move around in their own country.
We must remind President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf that witch-hunting Grand Gedeans all through her administration is a mistake. We cannot be broken by any strategy by her or her cronies by intimidating, harassing, persecuting, and incriminating Grand Gedeans. Madam Sirleaf should be aware that she and her children will be repaid in her own coin of every action she takes against the people of Grand Gedeh County. This is a caveat!

The Chairman

Nobel Peace Committee

Henrik Ibsens gate 51
NO-0255 Oslo, Norway

Attn: Thorbjørn Jagland, Chairman

Dear Mr. Chairman:

My name is Gibson W. Jerue, a Liberian journalist of 24-year experience, an author and advocate. I presently reside in Fargo, North Dakota, United States of America.

Firstly, I want to extend my thanks and appreciation to you, Mr. Chairman, and the five members of your committee, to include, Madam Kaci Kullmann Five, Deputy Chairperson; Madams Inger-Marie Ytterhorn, Berit Reiss-Andersen, and Mr. Gunnar Stålsett, all members. I must honestly say that your recognition of personalities around the world for the tireless effort they have made to make the world a better place has helped to transform the outlook of humanity. The Nobel Peace Prize is indeed a model laurel that every good man or woman craves to win. Certainly, every nation and people would be proud to see their son or daughter winning such a prestigious award, but in President Sirleaf’s case, the Liberian people are ashamed to even identify with the award given her. They do not know how to explain how she qualified for the award as there is no single evidence of criteria that qualifies one for a Nobel that Madam Sirleaf has achieved at any time of her life.

However, sir, I am petitioning your noble committee to revoke the award given to Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia. She does not deserve it because she has done nothing peaceful all her life, but organizing rebellions to wreck a nation that she claimed to love. She is the tormentor-in-chief of the Liberian people, financing and directing armed groups, and paying for the drugging of child soldiers with her lifesavings. She has confessed that she lavished $10,000 on the NPFL rebel organization; although her rebel partners claimed it was $20,000. This money went to guns, ammunition and drugs for child soldiers to fight her proxy war.

By awarding her the Nobel Prize, you have knowingly or unknowingly put a slap in the faces of Liberians, both living and those whose bones were crushed by Madam Sirleaf’s paid murderers. The reasons to revoke her prize are hereto attached for your consideration.
Counting your understanding of the plight of the Liberian people, I pray you relieve the people of Liberia by striping Madam Sirleaf of that prestigious prize. Nobel belongs to the likes of Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Leymah Gbowee, and other noble personalities of the world.
Yours Truly,

Gibson W. Jerue
