In 7 Grand Gedeans Case: Government Seeks Help From Supreme Court

Next Monday, October 29, 2012 will see the lawyers of the Government of Liberia and defense counsel of the seven Grand Gedeans charged with murder, rape, etc in a legal tussle at the Supreme Court of Liberia. The government took the lower Magisterial Court on summary proceeding before the Chamber Justice seeking reprieve.

According to information gathered from the Court, the government prosecutors ran to the Supreme Court to stop the Magistrate from freeing the seven men, who are currently detained at the Central Prison at South Beach. The prosecution said they believe the Magisterial Court was leaning towards granting the seven men their liberty.

The Defense Counsel for the seven men, Cllr. Dempster Brown has confirmed the information. "We are going to argue the case at the Supreme Court on Monday," Cllr. Brown said, "the government does not have case against these people."

The seven Grand Gedeans are Nezee Barway, Isaac Taryon, Michael Cole, Prince Youty, James Cooper, Stephen Gloto, and Nimely Tere Antoine. The arrest and detention of Bobby Sarpee Julu and brings the number of Grand Gedeans in detention to nine (9).

Meanwhile, the Concerned Grand Gedeans in the Americas have found a legal representation for Mr. Oforie Diah. He is being represented by Cllr. Brown.
