Part VIII: 10 Reasons Why Madam Sirleaf Is Witch-hunting Grand Gedeans

By Gibson W. Jerue
PART VIII:
At least five Krahn men had fallen victim of Madam Sirleaf’s witch-hunt. Retired Colonel Andrew Dorbor, the late Charles Julu, former Grand Gedeh Superintendent Chris Bailey, former Liberia transitional legislator William Karyee and former deputy Health Minister Benson Bah have all been profusely bleeding from the political punches of the Iron Lady. But she in not done yet.

This time around, she found a very good alibi—the Ivorian government listing that eight “Krahn dogs” (as they usually referred to us) are involved with some shooting and killing in la Cote d’Ivoire. So by fax [mostly used by presidents], email, letter or just by calling, the Alassan Ouattara regime forwarded names of Liberian citizens to the Sirleaf Administration. The Liberian government should have known better to detect that Ouattara is bitter with the Ivorian Krahn people for their alleged support for former president Laurent Gbagbo. For Ouattara and Sirleaf, Krahn is Krahn. And more besides, Ouattara was Prime Minister when Sirleaf’s NPFL passed through Ivory Coast to launched attack on the Government of Liberia with a Krahn President presiding.

Of the list, two are Ivorians and eight are Liberians, and those Liberians were all Krahn men. I guess Madam Sirleaf leaped for joy again. …”Yes, yes, yes, I got these dogs...,” she must have thought. And without delay she instructed her security forces to declare the men MOST WANTED. No proper investigation. With all the CID, CIU, NSA, NBI and other undercover agents in Monrovia, not a single group bothered to counter-check and verify the information that this foreign government has submitted. Once those names were Krahn men, boom it is true.

Who are those most wanted: 1) Ofori Diah, alias “Yellow Jacket”, former general of the defunct LURD forces; 2) Amos Chayee, former general and chief of staff of ULIMO-J forces; 3) Isaac Sayou Chegbo, alias Bob Marley, former “top brass” of the MODEL forces, 4) Nehzee Barway, former frontline commander of MODEL forces, 5) Congbe Norman, alias Col. One Way, former “top brass” of the MODEL, 6) Bobby Sharpee, alias Julu, 7) Tailey Gladier, alias Igwe, former top brass of MODEL, and  8) Abednego Zweh, another top bras of MODEL. For the Sirleaf administration, these men are already guilty and so they are MOST WANTED.

What anyone would have expected the government of Liberia had done was to send some undercover agents, seek out any and all these men, find the places they live, ask people about them, gather more information to ascertain whether in fact it is true they are in any way involved with the Ivorian killing. If possible and if any of them were found, let one of your female undercover or a male agent befriend them and hear from them, what they think about what is going on in the Ivory Coast. That way the government of Liberia builds up its own profiling of the eight men. But no, it does not worth it. Once these are Krahn men, they are guilty and they will have to prove themselves innocent.

A couple of days later, four of the most wanted men appeared at the Information Ministry, presided over by one of Taylor’s prolific hit men, Lewis Brown. He is soon becoming the mending figure of the old alliance between Taylor and his friend Madam Sirleaf. For Lewis Brown, what he and his godfather did not achieve on the battlefield was right in sight. First of all declare these six men wanted…no, most wanted…expose them to security risk and endanger their life, and then grab them and send them to jail.

Ofori Diah, Bobby Sharpee, Tailey Gladier and Abednego Zweh have proven that they are not part of the trouble in neighboring la Cote d’Ivoire. The Information Ministry has said they are not wanted but failed to apologize to the gentlemen. The four men have been living in Monrovia all along and struggling to get their daily bread, and feed their families. If the government had been careful, and did not intend to witch-hunt them, they would not have declared them wanted in the first place. But do you think President Sirleaf did not know that thorough checking was part of government information verification process? She has condemned Samuel Doe and Taylor in the past for hastily endangering citizens’ lives. How come she is doing the same thing? This is deliberate, and the only reason is she is witch-hunting only one group of people—the Krahn people. She won’t rest until she deals us a deadly blow that we will never forget.
