(MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Tuesday, July 2, 2012) Twelve Liberian
students have been selected as recipients of the 2013 Australia Development
Scholarship Program. Sponsored by the Australian Government, the program offers
public sector candidates scholarships at the Master’s level.
According to an Executive Mansion
release, a communication received from the Australian High Commission in Accra,
Ghana, and signed by the First Secretary (Development Cooperation) of the Australian
Agency for International Development (AusAID), Sarah Willis, said the public
sector candidates from Liberia were selected for the award after a rigorous
interview. Nine of the candidates are male, and three are female.
Liberia’s former Assistant
Minister for Afro-Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. George
Wisner, served on the interview panel. Mr. Wisner is a 2012 beneficiary of the
same scholarship program.
The priority areas for next
year’s scholarship program are Health, Governance and Natural Resource
Management. The Liberians selected for the 2013 program, and their areas of
preference, include: Mrs. Kebeh Kessie Beyan, Maternal Child Health; Mr. Molley
Kiazolu and Mr. Prince Nelson, Public Policy and Taxation; Mr. Ord-Siejepo
Jlateh, Mr. Benedict Harleyson, Ms. Murella Bedell and Mr. Emmett Ayomanor, Public
Financial Management.
Others are: Ms. Beatrice Lah,
Health Informatics; Mr. Saa David Nyumah, Jr., Public Policy/ Public Sector
Reform; Mr. William Barbedeh Pewu, Environment Change Management Research; Mr.
Robert Flomo Wallace, Sustainable Forest Management; and Mr. Sumo Samuel
Momolu, Mining Engineering.
A two-day pre-departure briefing
for successful candidates from Liberia will be held in October or November this
year, with the precise dates and location to be provided in due course.
